So I turned on the TV yesterday and there was this show about a world in which people were hooked up to machines which kept them alive. The machines were controlled by a bunch of robots who used the captive humans for their own advancement. It turned out not to be a movie but CNN.A lot of people in this country seem to have a selective fetishization of life. We have to save all life. Only God can decide when someone dies. We have to protect the weak and helpless from those who would snuff out their lives. Unless those lives are in countries we are at war with. Unless those lives are in Africa and repressed by a government without oil. Unless those lives are the poor in this country who cannot pay for their medical care. Unless those lives are the convicted in a proven unjust judicial system that time and time again sends innocent people to prison or death row. Unless those lives have no way of advancing the political careers of proponents of the sanctity of life.
I haven't posted in a while so I'll catch up my loyal followers on my recent adventures.Jury duty was called off. I was given a number to call before reporting to check if I needed to show up. I finally reached the one line number after dozens of busy signals and was told I was not needed and my duty was complete. I bet I will receive another announcement soon calling me in for another go 'round.I have been busy working to create a new blog, all about food and drink and cooking. It is called www..., well, I'll tell you when I am ready with the first issue. I don't want people peeking before it is done. It will be recipes and reviews, photos and thoughts about all things consumable. I'm really looking forward to it.Soon my friend Ray and I will have our garden going with a few things planted and the ground ready to go. This will be the earliest we've had it planted in the four years we've been doing it. Still there is a predicition for snow tomorrow morning. I left home this morning without a jacket and tomorrow the call is for snow. That's March weather for you.A few weeks ago my friend Tina was kind enough to take some photos of me. I returned the favor. The best of out photographs are posted here. Normally I don't show all of my unedited photos but I'll make an exception this time. Here are all 435 pics we shot that day in Durham. Thanks Tina.I am working on a series of photos inspired by this one I took last summer. The photo is hanging in my bathroom at home and the more I look at it each morning the more I like it.
The series is called "Modern Still Life without Fruit". Look for it soon.
